Izu Peninsula – Odoriko Train
Explore the Izu Peninsula by the luxury Saphir Odoriko train and have a relaxing coastal adventure in Japan!
We took a trip to Shimoda, which is the last stop at Izukyū Shimoda Station and can be accessed by the Saphir Odoriko or Odoriko train. Read below to learn more about booking the Saphir Odoriko.
Differences Between Odoriko and Saphire Odoriko
The Odoriko began service in October 1981 and the Saphir Odoriko began service in March 2020, replacing service of the Super View Odoriko.
The Saphir Odoriko is a deluxe version of the Odoriko and offers upgraded seats, large viewing windows, dining service and snack trolley services.
The Saphir Odoriko is generally around 12,000 YEN or $85 USD.
The Odoriko is generally around 6,000 YEN or $40 USD.

How to Book the Saphir Odoriko
The JR-East website (https://www.eki-net.com/en/jreast-train-reservation/Top/Index) can be accessed for train ticketing from 5:00 AM to 11:50 PM JST or 4PM to 10:50 AM ET.
- After clicking the URL above, next click the “Purchase Tickets” button
- Click “Search by Station“
- After referencing the timetables above, enter your desired stations and click “Search“
- On the next page, you will see the available times for Odoriko and Saphir Odoriko
- *Note: You can click “Previous Train” or “Next Train” using the green buttons on the bottom of the page to access different departure times
- Once you find your desired train, click the departure time then “Select” and “Buy Tickets“
- After logging into your JR-East account, be sure to pay using the same credit card you will physically take with you to Japan!
You can pick up your tickets at any JR-East Midori no Madoguchi – Or ticket counter.
