Our Stay at Fairmont Tokyo

Fairmont Tokyo gave us plenty of reasons to spend time at the hotel: a spacious Bay View King room, exceptionally attentive service, a pool above the city and bicycles for exploring outside. Then there was Serene, the resident Labrador, making a very persuasive case for another stop in the lobby.

The hotel sits above Shibaura, near Hamamatsucho Station, with Tokyo Bay on one side and the city skyline on the other. It is a good choice for a Tokyo hotel stay where the room and facilities are part of the trip. We recommend leaving some space in your itinerary to enjoy the hotel facilities!

Where We Stayed — Fairmont Bay View King

We stayed in the Fairmont Bay View King, a 52-square-meter room with a king bed and a broad window overlooking the bay. The sofa and small table by the window gave us a separate place to sit, with plenty of space around the bed. Warm wood, soft lighting and the blue of the water made the room feel calm.

The room came with a Nespresso machine, tea service, a Marshall Bluetooth speaker and a large smart TV. There were also robes, slippers and a hand steamer. The bathroom had a double vanity, a separate shower and a bathtub, with Le Labo Rose 31 toiletries and a Dyson hair dryer.

Fairmont Gold is a separate room and service offering with its own benefits; a Bay View King booking does not automatically include Gold lounge access.

The Small Details

We kept noticing the smaller touches around the room: the Japanese teapot and cups, the neatly arranged amenities and the slippers embroidered with Fairmont’s monogram. Even the “Privacy Please” hanger was a green tassel with gold lettering. The care put into these everyday items made the room feel thoughtfully finished.

Service and Pillow Requests

The attentive service was one of the highlights of our stay, and the pillow menu offered another way to get comfortable. The menu ranges from buckwheat to anti-snoring pillows, so you can choose the filling and firmness you find most comfortable.

Ask the concierge for the pillow menu and let them know your preferred filling or firmness.

Our welcome spread was set out by the window, with fruit and sweets arranged on the table. It was an inviting place to settle in and enjoy the bay view.

Swimming Above Tokyo

The main pool is a 20-meter indoor infinity pool on the 35th floor, with tall windows looking across the city toward Tokyo Tower. There is also an outdoor relaxation pool and a terrace. Together, they make the wellness floor a highlight of the hotel.

Pack a swimsuit and allow time for a swim between outings. Pool access is for registered guests. Children under four are not permitted, and children aged four to 15 need adult supervision. Check the current wellness hours and access rules ↗ before your stay, especially if the pool is a deciding factor.

90-Minute Momihogushi Massage Experience

We booked the 90-minute Momihogushi massage at Fairmont Spa, and the whole experience left us deeply relaxed. The surroundings looked beautiful and smelled lovely, while the massage and tea service made it feel as though all five senses had been looked after.

Our treatment included a private bathroom where we could get ready, shower and relax. Having that space to ourselves was a welcome part of the experience, with time to settle in around the treatment.

We came away wanting to check into Fairmont and stay put for a while, and that feeling applied to the hotel as a whole. Between the room, pools and spa, it was a very relaxing place to recharge at the end of a long trip.

Fitness and Saunas

The wellness facilities also include saunas and a 24-hour fitness center with Technogym equipment. Large windows bring the skyline into the gym, so even a treadmill session comes with a city view.

Exploring by Bicycle

We used the hotel’s cream-colored bicycles to get outside and explore. They have front baskets and Fairmont branding, and they offer a fun change of pace from trains and taxis. After spending time high above Tokyo, it was good to see the streets at bicycle speed.

Ask the hotel about current bicycle availability, rental conditions and charges. Staff can also help suggest a route for the amount of time you have with a convenient Google Map. We would plan a relaxed ride around the surrounding area rather than squeeze it between tightly timed reservations.

Meet Serene, the Resident Labrador

Serene is Fairmont Tokyo’s black Labrador and official Chief Happiness Officer. We met her during our stay, wearing a floral shirt and looking very at home. The hotel has plenty of impressive design, but a friendly dog is a difficult act to follow.

She is part of the hotel’s welcome, though a sighting is not something to schedule your day around. Fairmont also offers designated pet-friendly stay plans. If you are traveling with your own dog, check the eligible room, size limits and booking conditions directly with the hotel.

Breakfast at Fairmont Tokyo

Breakfast offered Japanese and Western choices. Our photos show a Japanese breakfast with grilled fish, rice, miso soup and egg, along with a pastry selection that made a second look at the buffet rather easy.
